Small is for ages 0-1 and will fit a head circumference of 18″. Medium is for ages 1-8 and will fit a head circumference of 18″-19″. Large is for ages 9+ and will fit a head circumference of 19″-21.5″. X-Large is for adults and fits a head circumference of 21.5″-23″.
